Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights in Andalus are one of the most advanced in the world. During the years before Etruscan rule, same-sex sexual activity was not specifically illegal, but was socially taboo. In Tiberias, the state's sodomy law was repealed in 1777, and same sex activity was specifically legalized a year later by the National Assembly. However, there is evidence of widespread prevalence in early Abbasidi literature, including several famous scholars. Following Etrusque's conquest of Abbasid in the mid-1800s, homosexuality was fully decriminalized under reforms aimed to gain the loyalty of the local population.

President Faisal openly advocated for the advancement of LGBT rights, laying the foundations for progress on the issue in the years after his presidency. King Joseph and King Felix publicly endorsed LGBT rights and marriage equality in 2014. Although several regions had guaranteed marriage equality years before, it was not until August 2015 that it was included in the constitution, via public referendum. On December 1, 2015 a public referendum to completely re-write the constitution to use gender-neutral pronouns was passed by 83% of the electorate.

Public opinion and Living conditions[edit | edit source]

Recent polls have found that the majority of Andalusian support further recognition of same-sex relations (88% 3rd in the world, 2015). LGBT media is highly prevelant in Andalusian society. As of 2012, official figures show 11.9% of Andalus' population (8,741,646) identify as LGBT. The unsually high concentration of LGBT people is mostly due to high LGBT tourism and the immigration of them from states that are less LGBT friendly.

In addition, the 2010 census indicates that the Nuami area (Deira, Saadiyat, Safwa; 20 million people), has the highest concentration of LGBT people in Andalus, with 25.2% of the total population identifying as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. Research has shown that Andalus' LGBT community commits almost $300 billion a year to the Andalusian economy, far surpassing that of other demographic groups. Duis Pride (first assembled 1998) is one of the few, and by far the largest LGBT Pride event in the region, attracted a record 5,000,000 in 2014. All LGBT+ persons are also allowed to serve openly in the military since 1997.
