Iwate Prefecture (岩手県 Iwate Ken?) is a prefecture of Okaiken located north of the capital, Okami. Its population as of 2015 was 2,091,112. It is the 14th largest prefecture with an area of 8,013.91 square kilometres. Its capital city is Ofunato. Iwate prefecture is known for its seashell industry as well as its heavy manufacturing. Most electronics companies in Okaiken, such as Onkyo and Denchisha, have their manufacturing industries in Iwate. The shipbuilding company Meiji is also located in Ofunato.
